Lucy Stevens - 22nd May 2022
Over the course of the last two weeks, we have taken a closer look at fostering communities, who they might include and what each member brings to fostering.
Reflecting on the importance of fostering communities, I am struck by the similarity between a fostering community and a village community. The adage that it takes a community to raise a child could not be more apt within the fostering context.
As Foster Care Fortnight draws to an end, we’d like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who make up our Fostering Community.
Thank you to our foster carers for your energy, commitment, passion and sacrifice. You are all making a tangible difference in the lives of our children.
Thank you to the friends and family who provide invaluable support to our foster carers. Many of them couldn’t do it without your unfailing, uncompromising support.
Thank you to the Supervising Social Workers who work so hard to support the carers and children, sharing their knowledge, advocating for children and young people and offering a listening ear to carers.
Thank you to the direct workers who spend time with our children, taking time to get to know them, listen to them and dream up all sorts of fun days out for them
Thank you to the Local Authority Social Workers working in very difficult circumstances, we thank those who value and act upon the views of foster carers and children and fight for their needs to be met.
Thank you to the teachers and educational professionals. School is often a consistent and positive environment for many of our children. Teachers who look beyond the behaviour and support our children to reach their potential offer something of infinite value and have a real impact on the future life chances of our children and young people.
Thank you to the therapists who take the time and use their knowledge to help children work through the loss and trauma they have experienced, helping them to move forward with the toolkit they need to be healthy, fulfilled adults.
Thank you to the health professionals. Doctors, dentists and other specialists who ensure the health needs of our children are prioritised. Many children have had their needs overlooked before coming into foster care, which can affect all areas of their life.
Thank you to the team at Eastern Fostering Services for the passion you have to make a difference to children and for the many ways you demontrate this daily.
The biggest thank you goes to our children you are our raison d’être! Thank you for the motivation you give us and for allowing us to share in your successes. We are super proud of you all!
